The Super Bowl party of the year was held at The Independent in downtown
Austin, TX. It was put on by Jeff & Scott of Soul of the Boot
Entertainment & StrangeTribe Productions. There was a 30 foot screen for full viewing pleasure to the 100+ Saints fans in attendance. Louisiana's
home brew, Abita beer, and Austin's own Treaty Oak Rum was served all night at no cost to compliment
the jambalaya and stew.
Soul of the Boot Entertainment and StrangeTribe Production bring you Who Dat? Super Bowl Shuffle
The beats were served on a golden platter nicely toasted pre-game, half-time and postgame by DJ Chicken George.
S.I.D. (Secret International Dunny) made his first appearance at Super Bowl XLIV.
And the celebrations begin...
The comfortable black & gold chairs, called "Queen of Love", were donated to the party by www.linvin.com. Have a look at their website to see if they fit your style.
I am sure you are all aware of the devastation that has struck the small nation of Haiti, which left many homes destroyed and lives lost.
We have a lot of respect for those of you that have been donating, throwing fundraisers and sponsoring events to raise money for the people of Haiti and that is exactly what the WFP (World Food Programme) and Austin Haiti Fund have been doing. They put together a fun filled event for those in need which was held at Stubb's bar & restaurant in Austin, TX on Friday 29th 2010.
Having such cool prizes in the raffle really helped to get people donating.
The prizes ranged from gift certificates to local boutiques to $200 bar tabs.
The prize most sought after entailed bringing El John Selector from Thievery Corporation to any location you would like to DJ for 3 hours. We, unfortunately, did not win that prize.
We didn't get an official count, however, we estimated the turnout to be around 250.
These 250 people came together for 3 hours on Friday and raised over $10,000 to help the country of Haiti.
Nice work people!
The entertainment begins...
The entertainment was top notch with big names in the music industry consisting of (left to right) DJ Chicken George, El John Selector of Thievery Corporation and Manolo Black of Peligrosa All-Stars. DJ Manny was also on the roster playing soulful tunes and rockin' the bongos.
We are going to start posting music videos which we A) listened to during the making of the blog post or B) we were introduced to the music during that time period. This week we were introduced to a very talented group called Brownout from Austin, TX. Have a listen...
